Spermatogonia, TEM

Transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of the ultrastructure of a conjoined pair of B-type spermatogonia linked by a cytoplasmic intercellular bridge. These germ cells will remain interconnected as they develop and divide into more mature primary and secondary spermatocytes and spermatids. This arrangement represents the development, from spermatogonial stem cells, of differentiating germ cells as clones as they progress through spermatogenesis. Cytoplasmic bridges provide for intercellular signalling that is intrinsic to the coordinated development of germ cells in spermatogenesis. Magnification: x4,000 when printed at a width of 10cm.
