The types of setae encountered in the present study, illustrated in Figure 1, will now be described. Plumose, Type A. Plumose setae bear two distinct rows of long, fine setules along most of the length of the shaft. The setules may be more or less densely arranged, but the rows are always situated opposite each other, forming an angle of 180° (Fig. 19). These setae may be segmented by constrictions, or annulations, of the outer surface of the shaft which occur near the insertion on the shaft of some pairs of opposed setules (Fig. 24)..
