Hurricane damage. Man surveying his store in Punta Gorda, Florida, USA, which was damaged by Hurricane Charley. Hurricane Charley moved inland and hit Port Charlotte, Florida, on 13 August 2004. At the time it hit, it was classified as a category 4 hurricane, with winds of 233 kilometres per hour (kph). The winds killed 10 people, destroyed buildings, brought down power lines and caused 3 metre high waves that flooded the area. Charley continued inland, weakening, but sustaining winds at 160 kph before dissipating on 15 August.
