This specimem is of a coarse crystalline limestone witha considerable admixture of fine of mica. No untoward event to theblock has the completion of the pipe, but something of the sort mayhave happened to the maker himself. The bowl is bored an inch and a quarterdeep, and a start has been made in boring the stem. The hole in the bowl isbarely three-eightli in. in diameter, ami the intention must have beep to rim itout at to least an inch, as the material i., here an inch-and-a-half thick.
