A landscape expert and a noted interior decorator were perfect- ing plans for the artistic arrangement of the exhibition halls, which together with the handsome building would reach a perfection that would eclipse all previous efforts. He urged securing choice specimen plants from private estates, as this stock was lacking in the Cleveland district. Philip Breit- meyer promised great assistance from the Florists' Telegraph Delivery Asso- ciation. The "Value of Flower Shows in Publicity for the Florists' Business" was the topic of a very interesting address by Chas. H. Totty. Mr. Totty was thoroughly convinced from his experience with the successful New York shows that they would be a great factor in every community in promot- ing the love for and sale of flowers. Afternoon Session. A paper on the "Maintenance of Soil Fertility" by Prof. James H. Beattie, horticulturist, United States Department of Agriculture, Washing- ton, was most comprehensive, being full of practical suggestions on this matter so important to greenhouse men. "Standardization of the Grading of Cut ; by Jos. Kohout, Lib- ertyville. Ill-, showed the essayist had g'iven the subject careful thought.
