One of the oldof Chambers county, and representing both on hisfathers and mothers side two of the pioneer familiesin southern Texas, Eobert Emmett Swinney is an oldcattleman and merchant, and at the present time is hon-ored with two important public offices, that of post-master at Anahuao, and as county treasurer of Chamberscounty. Robert Emmett Swinney was born at Wallisville, theold county seat of Chambers county, in 1857. Hisparents were Newton and Julia (Wallis) Swinney, bothnow deceased. His father, who was born and reared atAtlanta, Georgia, came with his widowed mother andher family to Texas about 1S34 or 1835. Their settle-ment was at Moss Bluflf in Liberty county, just northof what is now the Chambers county line. Grand-mother Swinney brought a number of slaves to Georgia,and her farming
