Ariel Gazelle (Gazella Arabica). curs frequently in the 0. T., denotes some speciesof antelope, probably the Gazella Dorcas, a nativeof Egypt and North Africa, or the Gazella Arabicaof Syria or Arabia, which appears to be a varietyonly of the Dorcas (so Mr. Houghton). The gazellewas allowed as food (Deut. xii. 15, 22, &c); it wasvery fleet of foot (2 Sara. ii. 18; 1 Chr. xii. 8); itwas hunted (Is. xiii. 14; Prov. vi. 5); it was cele-brated for its loveliness (Cant. ii. 9, 17, viii. 14).
