View NW of Old Gorhambury House showing the two-storey Classical porch leading into the hall from the S courtyard with the E wall & window of the dining room rear centre & L. Built 1563-8 by Sir Nicholas Bacon, Queen Elizabeth I's Lord Keeper of the Great Seal. The queen visited the house at least four times & her arms appear above the upper window of the porch. Doric columns flank entrance arch on ground floor, Ionic columns & niches flank upper windows. The porch is brick faced with chalk & limestone, the rest of the house is brick, or mortared flint formerly covered in pink plaster.
