Peroxisomes in kidney convoluted tubule, light micrograph

Peroxisomes in the proximal convoluted tubules of the kidney, light micrograph. The kidney and the liver are the two most peroxisome-rich organs. These organelles have an important detoxifying role, among other functions. In the kidney, peroxisomes are located exclusively in the renal cortex and, within it, mainly in the proximal convoluted tubules. This micrograph corresponds to a kidney stained with the diaminobenzidine method to show the peroxidase present in peroxisomes. The abundance of peroxisomes can be verified in the proximal convoluted tubules.
