In addition to the main transformerequipment, each substation will be fur-nished with a standard 10-kw., 3-phasetransformer stepping down from 2,300 to110 volts for lighting and auxiliary powercircuits. For operating the railway signal cir-cuits, a standard 25-kw., single-phasetransformer is being installed in eachsubstation stepping up from 2,300 to 4,400volts. A portable oil drying outfit willbe used for removing moisture from thetransformer oil. This outfit consists ofa motor-driven pump which forces theoil through an especially designed filter. ONE OF THE 430 H. P., 3,000 VOLT MOTORSUSED ON THE C. M. & ST. P. RAIL-WAY LOCOMOTIVES. and the electric drying oven for dryingthe filter paper. A portable transformerdryer and an oil testing set will also besupplied. Prussian Railways. A recent report in the first number ofa publication, Der Staatsbedarf, just is-sued, announces that the Prussian-HessianGovernment Railway and the ImperialRailroad of Alsace-Lorraine have placedorders for 763 locomotives, 35 passengercoaches, 14 baggage cars, and 13,200freight cars, all to be built in Germany. The Belgian Railways. The Belgian lines have now been com-pletely taken over by the German waroffice, and only Germans are employed,even the old porters not being allowed atthe stations.
