April 17th of this year marked the first celebration of Arbor Day in theHigh School. School was dismissed for the occasion at the end of the secondperiod in the afternoon, and after a short musical program, Dr. Herman Bab-son, professor of German in the University of Purdue, delivered a very inter-esting address on the German forestry system, comparing it with the wastefulmethods of the Americans, and illustrating his points with a large and variedcollection of beautiful lantern slides of the world-famous Black Forest ofGermany. The speaker was introduced by our own Prof. Voorhees, whomanaged to slip a few very apt little boyhood recollections into his speech. Following the program in the auditorium, we all assembled on the NorthCampus, where City Forester Getz planted a lurch sapling, presented to theschool by the Womens Reading Club.
