Doctor examining a refugee woman for signs of tuberculosis at a Red Cross clinic, Paris, France, between 1914 and 1920. Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection, usually of the lungs, that was a widespread cause of death before a vaccine was developed in the 20th century.
