Tulip tarda Native of rocky places in Soviet Central Asia in the Tien Shan range discovered in 1933. Also known as Dasystemon tarda. One of the most popular of the very dwarf tulips and easy to obtain and cultivate in a sunny position. It has a rosette of narrow green leaves with up to five flowers on each stem, close enough together as to appear in a bunch, opening out flat in the sun with a honey scent. They have a very large central yellow eye which reaches to half way or more up the segments the tips of which are white. Externally there is a greenish suffusion. The anthers are yellow. Best grown as a mass in a sunny situation in rockery, a raised bed or in pots and the soil needs not be so well drained as with most dwarf tulips. ''
