He was re-elected in 1780, but refused toserve. He was one of the committee appointed in1781 to procure seven men to serve for the town inthe Revolutionary army. He held the rank ofMajor in the army, and was promoted to Colonelnear the close of the struggle. He died in Febru-ary, 1809, near the end of his seventy-fourth year,and a monument in Topsham testifies to the honorin which he was held. His wife.
