October was a difficult month for the growers. There was no killing frost near the lake until October 29. The mean temperature was 4 degrees above normal. Rainfall, inches, was more than twice normal, the greatest for October since 1883. The percentage of possible sunshine was only fifty-one, against sixty as normal. It was a warm, damp, dark month, the kind of weather that increases production of flowers and makes them soft. Various Notes. W. H. Hilton, who is now at 1509 East Fifty-third street and has been in business in Hyde Park for more than thirty years, intends to move to San Diego, Cal. Mrs. Joseph Kohout, of Libertyville, 111., was successfully operated on for appendicitis last week, at the Garfield Park hospital.
