. American engineer and railroad journal . AUGE RAILRliAl patent pressed steel underframe, the latter being carried at eitherend on the spherical centers of two four-wheel trucks, also of theFox pressed steel pattern. The Leeds Forge Companys patentarrangement of the inside stanchions has been adopted in orderto give the minimum overall dimensions. The cars are arrangedso as to discharge the whole of the contents at the center, andthe doors can be opened and closed from either side of the carby turning the transverse shaft. This shaft carries levers fixedto it which are connected by links to toggles, the bottom ends ofwhich are attached to the door. These toggles are so arrangedthat when the doors are closed they are in line with each other, and they thus resist any tendency of th-j doors to open throughthe action of the load on the doors, or as a result of switchingoperations. The cars are fitted with an either-side handscrewbrake, applying brakes to all wheels, and are fitted with thebuffer gear common to the C. S. A.
