In figure 78 we liave a good imitation of the very best Indian attempt Ihave seen, to represent the human face in clay. It is only a mask, but as suchis perfect. The pipe-bowl of which it formed a part must have been a tolerablycapacious one. Even as a fragment this specimen has been prized, for the brokenedges are rubbed smoothly down, and one can only wonder that no hole is boredto hang it by. It was procured from Jlr. Jos. W. Stewart, who reports that itwas found somewhere about Lake Siincoc
