Eye cataract surgery by phacoemulsification. Surgical staff are seen during the procedure with the patient in the background. In this technique, the eye's internal lens is emulsified with an ultrasonic handpiece, and removed by aspiration from the eye. These fluids removed from the front of the eye are replaced with a balanced salt solution, and a new artificial lens is fitted to restore sight.
