British pioneer aviator Amy Johnson (1903-1941) was the first woman to fly solo from London to Australia. During the 1930s, she broke many long-distance flying records, including doing so with her husband, Jim Mollison. She was awarded the CBE, she became President of the Women's Engineering Society, she was awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Aero Club, and during World War II she delivered military aircraft for the Air Transport Auxiliary. In 1941, she died in a crash while delivering an airplane. To see my other female-related images, Search: Prestor vintage woman
