Buxton, High Peak, Derbyshire, England UK
The Romans were attracted to Buxton for its thermal springs known as Aquae Arnemetiae. The spring at St Anne’s Well opposite the Crescent was probably a place of pilgrimage for early medieval travellers. The golden period of Buxton as a Spa Town began when the 5th Duke of Devonshire commissioned the construction of The Crescent (1780-84).
