As many florists have become more or less interested in the question of fuel oil, and aa it bears somewhat upon the question of greenhouse heating, it may not be amiss to say a few words in re- gard to oil fuel. Oil is the most perfect fuel from an engineering standpoint, with the excep- tion of natural ^as, but unfortunately its supply is distinctly limited. If oil were suflSciently plentiful and cheap and if a constant supply could be guaranteed as a certainty, it would, of course, be an ideal fuel for greenhouse heating. It no doubt will be of interest to many to obtain some data to enable yon to compare the cost of oil fuel with the cost of coal. For a quick calculation of this kind, one may double the price of oil in cents per gallon, and call this dol- lars per ton of coal. In other words, oil at 10 cents per gallon is equivalent to coal at $20 per ton. This method, how- ever, does not include any other cost than the fuel cost, and it does not take into account the labor of handling. OLEN COVE, N. Y. Horticultural Society. The monthly meeting of the Nassaii County Horticultural Society was held at Pembroke hall, November 10. Presi- dent Thomas Twigg occupied the chair and William Allen was elected to active membership, while two petitions for membership were read. John Fo
