Berlin, Mitte, Mohrenstrasse U bahn station (Moor street station) will be renamed Anton-Wilhelm-Amo after recent BLM Black Lives matter protests.
The name Moor street is considered derogatory and has unpleasant colonial connotations. Anton-Wilhelm-Amo was the first black student at a German University and became the first black University Professor in Europe. There has been considerable debate about this. The BVG first proposed that the U-Bahn station be renamed Glinkastrasse after the nearby street. This was rejected when it was suggested that Michail Iwanowitsch Glinka, after whom the street was named, was associated with anti-Semitism.
