Sanford's brown lemur (Eulemur sanfordi) female. This lemur is endemic to Madagascar, found in forests on the island's northern tip. It feeds mostly on fruit and other plant material. It is sexually dichromatic: males have a more prominent cheek ruff than the females. All lemurs are endemic to Madagascar, where they evolved in isolation from other primates after Madagascar became geographically isolated from Africa. Many lemur species are becoming increasingly rare due to habitat destruction. Photographed in Madagascar.
