Captains Burton and Specke, under the auspices of the RoyalGeographical Society, two travelers who had previously distinguishedthemselves by a perilous journey to Harar, a trade headquarters in theSomali and Galla country, of the East African promontory, started fromZanzibar to explore the great inland lakes spoken of by the Mombasmissionaries.
