Measuring blood pressure. Elderly patient having her blood pressure measured using a sphygmomanometer. The healthcare worker is listening to the patient's pulse using a stethoscope, while the sphygmomanometer gauge at right displays a blood pressure reading. The inflated cuff on the arm temporarily cuts off the blood flow. As it is deflated, blood flow resumes and a reading of the pressure is taken. Blood pressure is an important indicator of health.
