The fenced off remains of the main shaft at the "Energetic Mine" Reefton in the West Coast region of South Island New Zealand. The mines main shaft was started in 1878, although mining had begun in the area in shaft was eventually 692 metres, some 200m below sea level. It later combined wth the "Wealth of Nations" after a series of owners. The mine closed in 1927 after a shaft collapse. It is reported that 203 785 ounces of gold were extracted from the mine. The Department for Conservation now manage the mine area.
