The swing motion hanger, shown between the two dies, isalso made from bar iron at one stroke of the machine. Withthe dies shown in the illustration these two pieces can be madeeither by reducing from bar iron or by welding, according tothe choice of the operator. With the Jeffrey combination dies it is not only possible tomake the various articles with practically no preparatory workand with a minimum number of operations, but it is also pos-sible to manufacture articles which could not otherwise be made. The figurein the center represents the end of a valve rod made with onestroke of the machine and the figure at the right is a swingmotion hanger made with two strokes. On the left of Fig. 5 isshown an anchor which is made with two strokes of the examples of work are shown in Figs. 6 and 7. Fig. 8 shows the dies for bending and punching arch bars ona No. 9 Ajax forging machine. Bars of the proper length areplaced in the dies and at one stroke of the machine they arefinished and ready to be forwarded to the truck shop and placedon the trucks. The dies or formers are guided by the twoheavy rods, one at each end. It will be noted that provision ismade for bending a lug at each end of the arch bar. Another feature that is quite noticeable in this shop is thatpractically all pu
