His monument is in the Holy Trinity Chinch, Hull, with the followinir inscription(Gents History of Hull, 1735) :ââ Within this vault interred the Body of the Worshipful Aldermaa John Somerscales,merchant, was twice Mayor of this town. He departed this life 18 Feby. 1732, aged married Martha, the daughter of Mr. John Watson, late of this town, by whom he had4 sons and 4 daughters. Two of his sons lie interred near the west door. His will is dated 32 May 1724, from which the following are extracts :â
