Swanwick, Bursledon,Southampton Monday 13th June 2016 Six Fire Appliances and fifty firefighters have spent the night battling to stop a blaze from spreading at the famous Swanwick boatyard near Bursledon Southampton. The blaze broke out at just after 11:30 pm this evening in an office building at Deacons Force 4 Chandlery   Three hose reels and two jets are being used to tackle the blaze that has spread to the roof of the building. Six Fire Crews from St Mary's, Fareham, Eastleigh,Hightown, Botley and the aerial ladder from St Mary's at currently fighting the fire that was well-developed and smokey fire when crews arrived on the scene. Explosive flares were removed from the building along with other flammable chemicals. Fire fighters are using the aerial ladder platform to help to cut away at the front of the building to check that the fire has been totally extinguished and that the fixing holding the tin to building have not been damaged. Speaking at the Scene Station manager Dave Graham said "It was a very smoky fire so they found it difficult to actually locate the seat of the fire, which they finally did inside the office space. "[There were] very high temperatures inside because of the construction of the building and the insulation so crews worked very hard to actually get in, get out and actually get some water on the fire." Firefighters used high pressure ventilation to cool the interior before going in and removing hazardous material from the chandlery. The ground floor was damaged by smoke and water but the rear premises were not damaged. South Central Ambulance service also sent a Hazardous Area response team to the incident, Fire fighters are using the aerial ladder to cut away at the front of the building to check that the fire has been totally extinguished and that the fixing holding the tin to building have not been damaged. ©UKNIP
