Harvest mouse (Micromys minutus) on an ear of wheat. Native to Europe and Central Asia, the harvest mouse grows to a length (excluding the tail) of just 7 centimetres. Its prehensile tail and small size allows it to climb the thin stems of grasses, feeding on their seeds and nesting between the stalks. It also eats small insects and fruit. In the winter it does not hibernate, instead living off stores acquired during the summer.
