Two female Spotted Hyenas (Crocuta crocuta) drinking at a waterhole at night. The older individual on the right is blind in one eye and has partial blindness in the other eye. Even though she is handicapped, her life has been prolonged by the assistance and protection she receives from other clan members. Spotted hyenas are social animals, which live in a matriarchal society. Photographed in Zimanga private game reserve, Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa.
