The annelids here described were collected by the writer in Fijiand Samoa in April, May, and June of 1920, on an expedition con-ducted by the Department of Marine Biologj^ of the Carnegie Institu-tion of Washington, Dr. A. G. Mayor, Director. Owing to our shortstay in Fiji, collecting there was limited to the immediate vicinity ofSuva and was mainly done on the reefs on either side of the mainentrance to the harbor and on the mud flats near the city front. i o . west CAPE. In Samoa, a very thorough survey was made of the harbor of PagoPago in Tutuila, so that so far as the Leodicidse are concerned thiswork can claim to be exhaustive for that locality. Only a fewanneUds from other families were collected and none equaled theLeodicidse in number of species or abundance. The Leodicidae occurespecially in the reef rocks and are not represented in the mud of theupper harbor. Apparently this is due to the large quantities offresh water which flow into the upper end of the harbor, makinga brackish-water condition in which only a few Terebellids andCapitelhdids can live. I found a similar condition at Fagaalu and 129 130 Leodicidce fmm Fiji and Samoa. on the opposite side of the island in the harbor of Leone. Collectionswere also made in the lagoon southwest of Nuuli and in the reefwest of the island of Aunuu. The specimens were narcotized in a solution of MgS04, 153 gramsto
