MoFAKLAifD L. C. MoFabland McFARLANDS, Florists AKRON, OHIO ST. LOUIS. aOML DESffiNS of al fcMs COVER Au am fornn The Market. At present we are enjoying delight- ful fall weather and, because of it, l)usine8s showed some improvement last week. A good killing frost is needed before steady business can be recorded. In the wholesale market many roses are coming in daily, of all varieties and much improved in quality, especially Russell and Hadley. Ophelia is much improved in color and stem. These, when extra fancy, clean up well. Kil- larney, Ward and Richmond form the bulk of the rose stock. Carnations are becoming more abund- ant and their quality is much improved, but the bulk of them are short of stem. The fancies clean up at $2 per hun- dred. Enchantress, Ward and Beacon are in the majority. Violets are becom- ing more numerous and are showing better quality because of the cooler weather. They sell well. Some extra good valley and Easter lilies can be had at any time. Among the outdoor flowers, there still are many asters, cosmos, dahlias, gladioli and tuberoses. There seems to be a good call for all of these; thej' are used by the retailers for window displays. Mums are increasing in quan- tity and some good blooms are coming in. Smilax, asparagus and adiantum have good daily sales. Various Notes. There will be no flower show here this fall. As the Henry Shaw prizes of $500 are available for flower shows held in this city, an effort will be made by the committee in charge of the meet- ing of the American Carnation Society to have these prizes offered at this meeting and exhibition, which takes place January
