Here the horns are placed at one end of anoblong formation of rocks surrounding the body, which lies on thetop of the ground. Several of these oblongs are also seen near thebase of the granite cliffs about a mile from the present village on Island. On Sledge Island, which is a short distance from the mainland ofAlaska, is found the nearest approach to a coffin. The bodies arehidden in boxes made of poles and logs of driftwood, and slightlyelevated. Several masks of the medicine men can be found aroundthe graves.
