Gyrfalcon (Falco rusticolus), intermediate morph. Gyrfalcons are very large falcons that can reach 60 centimetres in length, weigh up to kilograms, and have a wingspan of 130 centimetres. It mainly preys on birds such as ptarmigans and seabirds, but will also take mammals such as lemmings and hares. Several different colour morphs are possible, this one being intermediate between the white and dark morphs. Photographed in June, in Scotland.
