This illustration shows the Egyptian goddess Isis leaving Byblos for Egypt after taking husband's coffin from the column.

According to Egyptian mythology, Set fooled his brother Osiris into stepping into a coffin. Set then sealed the coffin and threw it into the Nile river. It floated to Byblos (in present-day Lebanon) where it became embedded in a cedar tree trunk. The cedar tree was cut down and used as a column in the palace. Isis, Osiris' wife, went to the palace and asked permission to take the coffin from the column, which she did, without harming the palace. She then took the coffin back to Egypt to bury it. This illustration, dating to 1915, shows Isis, having taken the coffin from the column, now leaving Byblos for Egypt.
