Florida Caverns State Park is located in Marianna in North Florida's western Panhandle region of the state. With natural sculptures frozen in stone, Florida Caverns is Florida's only show cave and the state's top showcase of geologic wonders. Rimstone pools and soda straws await discovery deep beneath the earth on the famous cave tour. Aboveground, ancient stone shelters and caves that serve as bat nurseries are right along the trails. Spring wildflowers put on a splashy show of colors. Upland hardwood forest-- A native plant community among the rarest in Florida, because of the original hardwoods have been converted into farming or development. The hardwood forest occupies a narrow area between the floodplain forest and higher elevation pinelands. Hardwood forest does not normally flood, nor does it burn. Therefore it tends to be a relatively permanent plant community. Some of the large trees are American Beech, White Ash, Southern Magnolia, White Oak, and Basswood.
