Lord James Douglas, the third son of William, first Miuquis of Douglas, andMargaret Hamilton, his first countess, was born about 1617. In September 1624,his father resigned the lands of Glenbervie and others in favour of James, his thirdson, whom failing, in favour of William, the second son, whom failing to Archibald,Lord Douglas.^ After 1633 Lord James is described as the second son of the 1628, and again at a date not recorded, but after 1633, he received charters fromhis father and eldest brother of lands in the barony of Wandell in Lanarkshire.
