This photograph depicts the interior of a Special Surgical Ambulance designed by 2nd Lt. Julien A. Gehrung for use by the Red Cross of Allied Armies during World War One. It was used to treat cases of gas poisoning, as well as eye, ear, and nose ailments. The photograph was taken on May 29, 1918, in Paris, France. It was officially issued after being approved by the A. E. F. censor on June 19, 1918.
