The concrete centre ought also bepoured within the space of one day. There is some difference of opinionas to the necessity for a base of cinders. The author favors them. Ifused they should be the hard kind, wetted down and packed solid to a TEOPICAL AQUARIUM FISHES 221 depth of one foot or more. For tanks of moderate size—say 11x22feet—reinforcement should be by use of ^-inch steel rods, crossed onsquares of 8 inches. The bottom needs two layers of these bars, one nearthe up]ier and one near the lower surface. This protects against both. Fig. 161.
