September 19, 1994;Port-au-Prince, Haiti-United States troops occupy Haiti in an American-led effort to establish democracy to the unstable Caribbean nation. The troops helped to remove a military dictatorship and return power to the democraticly elected Roman Catholic priest Jean-Bertrand Aristide who was ousted by the Hatien military three years before. In this photograph the first American troops to touch foot in Haiti are seen at the international airport in Port-au-Prince seconds after having stepped out of the Blackhawk helicopters that flew them in.
