Th(imps(in, Charlks F., was born in Orange,Mass., Dec. 15, 1852. He is of English CHARLES F. THOMPSON. among his ancestry some of the oldthis country. Stejihen Fossett, his 422 BOSTON OF TO-DAY, motliers grandfather, left England in 1650, and afew years later settled in Boston. The latters sonwas brought up here, and at one time lived in the onlyhouse on the island of East Boston, then NoddlesIsland, situated in what is now the very centre,and supplied English vessels with produce fromhis farm. The relatives on the fathers side cameover from England in 1700, and also settled nearBoston. One of them at least is known to havefought in the Revolutionary War. Charles parents moved from Orange to Fitch-burg in-i857, and from there to Lynn in 1862. InLynn he received his education in the publicschools; and soon afterward began his business was employed for a time in various capacities inshoe factories in
