Illustration of the US molecular biologist and physician Peter Agre (born 1949). Agre is best known for his discovery of aquaporins, the channels in cell membranes that allow water to pass in and out of a cell. Agre shared the 2003 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his discovery of aquaporins.
