The statues represent four founders of Europe: the Italian Alcide de Gasperi (1881-1954, President of the Council), the French Robert Schuman (1886-1963, Minister of Foreign Affairs), Jean Monnet (1888-1979, first Commissioner to the Plan) and Konrad Adenauer (1876-1967, German chancellor)
