A more contemporary area of the gardens of Cottesbrooke Hall in Northamptonshire, with ornamental chives planted within borders surrounding a shallow pool; beyond are stone steps leading to the Philosopher's Garden. The hall is a Queen Anne period house dating from 1702, and is reputed to be the inspiration for Jane Austen's "Mansfield Park".
