The Planu Sartu (or Pranu Sartu) mine is located on the calcareous plateau west of Buggerru near the mining village. This mine was discovered in 1869 by the Mining Company of Malfidano and reached its peak of production at the beginning of the 20th century, hosting 2750 workers inside the mining village. This allowed the village of Planu Sartu to gain a degree of autonomy from the nearby village of Buggerru.
