Main entrance hall with timber staircase leading to upper levels. Rozet Cultural Centre, Arnhem, Netherlands. Architect: Neuteli
Rozet brings together five cultural institutions: public library, adult education centre, local heritage centre and art and dance academies. The site, a long, thin wedge in the centre of Arnhem, was challenging. Neutelings Riedijk's inspired solution was extend the streets of the city up through the building, via a magnificent timber staircase, which switches back on itself over five levels to link all the institutions and to lead to a panoramic roof terrace. This approach - which incorporates informal seating and display areas - echoes their design for the Museum Aan de Stroom in Antwerp. The exterior is clad in repeated pale yellow precast concrete panels, with embossed rosettes (reflected in the name 'Rozet'). Rozet won the Best Dutch Building 2014 award, and was shortlisted for the Mies van der Rohe Award 2015.
