Dhakandhoo is an unusual elongate island in that its long axis is oriented E-W. Erosion was concentrated along the eastern and northwestern shorelines. Prior to the tsunami the eastern end of the island had accreted as a sequence of chevron-shaped ridges and recently colonized by Scacvola and Pcmphis bushes. The tsunami caused significant retreat of this newly accreted area (20 in. Fig 13 d) which provided the greatest contribution to the total loss of vegetated island area of.
