Lap-weld tube mill and coiling yard at the Imperial Tube Works, Monmore Green, Wolverhampton (John Brotherton Ltd), 1894. John Brotherton founded Brotherton Tubes at the Imperial Tube Works after working for his uncle, Cornelius Whitehouse, at his gas and water tube works in Monmore Green. Brotherton became one of the largest tube manufacturers in South Staffordshire - renowned for the high quality of his products. He was instrumental in improving Wolverhampton's water supply and became the town's mayor in 1883. The Imperial Tube Works was built next to the Birmingham Canal Navigation.
