Plaque at base of tree reads: 'THIS OAK TREE / was planted by Councillor H. R. Taylor ex Mayor / and Councillor John Nisbet, chairman of the Roads / and Public Gardens Committee of the Camberwell / Borough Council (who were chairman and Hon. / Secretary respectively of the Enclosure of Honor / Oak Hill Protest Committee) to commemorate the / opening of this hill to the public on Monday 7th / August 1905, and to perpetuate the original oak / tree that stood near this spot, and under which / Queen Elizabeth is said to have rested on Mayday / 1602, and which tree was ever after known as / "THE OAK OF HONOR"'
